Clay Pot

Clay Pot

from 185.00

Pottery is the most popular art practiced in Mexico. Mexican potters typically use local clay and either dig it up themselves or pay someone to bring it by donkey or truck. Household ceramics such as plates, utensils, and carrying jars are made with shape and function in mind.

For people in rural areas with little or no employment, crafts like ceramics provide a source of income. Many potters form family workshops and are secretive about their process. However, the number of artisans has been steadily declining due to mass-production. This is because the elderly who usually are the overseers and instructors are stopping work earlier and the younger generation has started desiring more profitable careers.
